  • Our weight loss programs consist of once weekly injections of a GLP-1 agonist. Our practice currently carries two different GLP-1 agonists. One is a newer medication that combines the actions of GLP-1 and another hormone called glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This dual-action approach is unique and potentially more effective in managing blood sugar levels and weight.

You may know these drugs by their brand names. Because of the increased demand for these brand name GLP-1 agonists, the medications have been made available to licensed practitioners by compounding pharmacies to help supply the demand at a more reasonable price than the brand names companies are charging.

We currently supply two different GLP-1 agonists. Both of these medications are administered in your belly weekly with a small insulin needle and are very similar in their mechanism of action.

Both medications have been FDA approved for weight loss and control of diabetes.

Both medications have been proven effective when monitored by a healthcare professional for weight loss.

Clients taking GLP-1 agonists have reported similar side effects including:

    Nausea

    Vomiting

    Diarrhea

    Constipation

    Belching

    Hypoglycemia

    Allergic reaction

    Hair loss

    Vision changes

Although both GLP-1 angonists are used to assist patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity in losing weight, managing insulin production and improving cardiovascular diseases, there are some significant distinctions between them.

The main distinctions between these drugs are that they’re two different classes of drugs and have slightly differing targets in the brain.

GLP-1 agonists lower high blood sugar by raising the amount of insulin produced, decreasing the amount of glucagon released, and prolonging stomach emptying. It also regulates appetite, reducing your cravings.

Research suggests the dual GLP-1 and GIP medication may cause a more significant reduction in body weight than the single GLP-1. However, additional comparative studies are needed to draw firm findings. It’s also important to remember that each person reacts to medications differently. One GLP-1 agonist may work better for some people than the other.

Cost is often an important factor for clients when determining which weight loss medication is more suitable. The GLP-1 agonist with the GIP is more costly than the single GLP-1 agonist due to many factors including supply.

During your medical consultation we will discuss which medication is better suited for you and answer any questions you may have.

  • During your initial consultation we will discuss your weight loss goals and how to achieve them safely, efficiently and effectively. We will determine which medication is best for you based on any of your previous attempts at losing weight, your lifestyle, your eating habits and your past medical history.

You will then receive weekly visits from our RN to administer your injections and monitor your weight loss progress. During this time she is available to discuss any questions or concerns you may have and will aide with any side effects you may experience.

If this is your first time using GLP-1 agonists to lose weight, you will most likely start on the lowest dose and continue on that dose for two weeks. We will then work with you closely while monitoring your progress and discussing your appetite and any side effects, slowly increasing the dose to achieve maximum weight loss benefits. Titrating the dose slowly does help to reduce stomach side effects with GLP-1 agonists. Our Registered Nurse with be in contact with you as often as you need to ensure a safe, effective and efficient weight loss program.

After the second week of your weight loss injection we will confer with you and our medical provider to determine the next appropriate dose. Titration of the dose is based on the presence of any side effects, eating habits and progression of weight loss. At this time you will start to feel yourself getting full faster and some appetite suppression. You will see the scale slowly dropping. Every person’s metabolism is different and some may lose weight faster than others. Most clients have seen excellent results in les than 6 weeks on our weight loss packages.

Most clients lose an average of 5 lbs per week. We will continue to monitor your progress until you have reached your weight loss goal. We wil then discuss maintenance dosing and/or stopping the injections once your BMI and weight are in the ideal range.

Most clients have reached their weight loss goals in 3 months respectively.
